About this experience
Before first light you gather in the cool desert as the burners roar and the great balloon fills and rises. You lift silently off the sand just as the sun crests the eastern cliffs.
From the basket the whole of Wadi Rum opens beneath you — sandstone mountains casting long shadows, sweeping dunes turning from grey to fiery orange, the occasional camel train tiny on the valley floor.
