About this trip

The Japan first-timers always book

Seven nights is the sweet spot for a first Japan trip — enough to cover the country's two essential cities (Tokyo and Kyoto) properly with a quiet Mt Fuji interlude in Hakone. Days 1-4 are Tokyo: Shibuya, Shinjuku, Senso-ji, the Imperial Palace gardens, an optional Toyosu fish-market dawn breakfast, and a long evening of izakaya-hopping in Omoide Yokocho. Days 5-6 are Hakone for a ryokan night with an open-air onsen and a Hakone Loop day (pirate ship + ropeway). Days 7-8 are Kyoto: Fushimi Inari at sunrise, Arashiyama bamboo + Tenryu-ji, Gion in the evenings, a private tea ceremony with a machiya master. The Shinkansen bullet train experience is built in (Tokyo → Odawara for Hakone → Kyoto). Hotels are 4-star Western brand in cities + a mid-tier ryokan in Hakone with shared onsen.

Questions, answered.

When should I book a Japan trip?

+

For cherry-blossom season (late March to mid April) and autumn leaves (mid November), book 4–6 months ahead — flights and ryokan rooms sell out further out than any other season. For other months, 60–90 days is fine.

Is the JR Pass included?

Vegetarian and Jain food?

Will my Indian phone work?

Can I extend with Osaka and Hiroshima?
