About this trip

The Japan honeymoon — onsen, kaiseki, slow days

Eight nights of slow-paced Japan, structured around two premium ryokan stays where the onsen is private to your room. Days 1-3: Tokyo at a Park Hyatt-tier or Shangri-La hotel with a private Edo cooking workshop. Days 4-5: Hakone in a high-end ryokan with private rotenburo (open-air bath) and Mt Fuji-facing rooms. Days 6: travel day to Kinosaki Onsen via Kyoto — the seven-bathhouse town where you walk between baths in a yukata, the most distinctive ryokan experience in Japan. Days 7-9: Kyoto in a luxury machiya or Aman/Four Seasons with a private kaiseki master class. Every meal at the ryokans is multi-course kaiseki. Bullet train tickets and English-speaking concierge throughout.

When should I book a Japan trip?

+

For cherry-blossom season (late March to mid April) and autumn leaves (mid November), book 4–6 months ahead — flights and ryokan rooms sell out further out than any other season. For other months, 60–90 days is fine.
